K-9 Erik has retired and has happily joined the rest of the family dogs. Officer Reardon and Cohasset’s new K-9 “Einstein” are now out on patrol together serving the town of Cohasset.
In the summer of 2011, The Cohasset Working Dog Foundation was founded in an effort to launch Cohasset’s new Police K-9 program. Today, officer Pat Reardon and K-9 Erik are a seasoned police K-9 team serving the community, and a familiar sight around town.
The CWDF will support K-9 Erik throughout his working life, providing for his care and ensuring that he has the equipment he needs to serve the community.
In May of 2014, with the support of donors, we delivered a highly trained service dog, “Parker”, to a disabled Cohasset child. The volunteer-led foundation also supports a therapy dog program, with two cheerful, loving dogs trained through the Dog B.O.N.E.S program. “Sophie” and “Lyle” regularly visit nursing homes, hospitals, schools and libraries.
With your donation we can continue to fund these valuable programs which benefit every Cohasset resident.
The Cohasset Working Dog Foundation relies solely on the generosity of our friends and supporters. Donations can be sent to Cohasset Working Dog Foundation, PO Box 45, Cohasset, MA 02025 and can also be made online.
Would you like to be a monthly donor? A number of our supporters spread out their donation by signing up for monthly payments.
Volunteers are always welcome to help with our service dog activities and fundraising events. Please let us know of your interest and we will get you connected! email: email@example.com
The mission of the Cohasset Working Dog Foundation is to support Cohasset’s Police K-9 program and to provide grants to individuals in the community toward the purchase and training of service dogs, including guide dogs for the blind, hearing and mobility-impaired, and seizure alert dogs.
Sophie – Therapy Dog
The four-and-a-half year old black lab from Tennesee was adopted by her owner through Double Dog Rescue and it was love at first sight. Sophie is one happy dog who loves to walk in the woods, swim at the beach and most especially put a smile on someone’s face when she is visiting schools, colleges, nursing homes and letting kids read to her at the library. She loves to ride in the car with her family and the destination is not important as long as she can go. Sophie has become a great friend and role model to her new family pet Rusty, an Australian Shepherd from Alabama and another Double Dog Rescue success story. Rusty has been getting comfortable with a working dog role and may one day also be joining Sophie more formally to support Cohasset Working Dog Foundation in the future.
Parker – Service Dog
Lyle – Therapy Dog
Named after Lyle Lovett, this 13-year ‘young’ Yorkshire terrier, is all of 4 1/2 pounds! Prince Lyle resides in Cohasset and loves living so close to the ocean. He became certified as a therapy dog through DOG B.O.N.E.S., based in Scituate, Massachusetts. Lyle has a very calm temperament and was truly made to be a working dog.
